2001
Woolworths partnered with Gull Petroleum to establish mini supermarkets at Gull fuel forecourts.

2002
On 17 June 2002, Progressive Enterprises Ltd bought Woolworths (NZ) from Hong Kong based owners Dairy Farm Group. The sale saw Progressive's supermarket brands Foodtown, Countdown, SuperValue and Fresh Choice joined by Woolworths, Big Fresh and Price Chopper. As a result Progressive Enterprises increased its share of the NZ grocery market.

2003
In February 2003 the last five remaining 3 Guys stores in Auckland, Huntly and Orewa were rebranded as Price Chopper, as part of Progressive Enterprises' brand rationalisation process following the purchase of Woolworths NZ.
Reflecting the new brand, stores took on a new look, which included new uniforms, signage, and a fresh approach to advertising.

2003
In February 2003, Progressive Enterprises launched its new internet shopping service, Foodtown Online Shopping, closely modelled on the systems and technology utilised on the highly successful Woolworths Online Shopping site.
Foodtown Online Shopping (foodtown.co.nz) responds to customer demand for an online shopping service that reflects the look and feel of the Foodtown brand while offering doorstep delivery of groceries nationwide.
2003
The Foodtown Woolworths Onecard was launched in May 2003. This innovative programme centred on a card called the Onecard, similar to the successful Foodtown card introduced in 1994, but with additional benefits.
2003
In July 2003, the Big Fresh brand ceased to operate. First opening in 1988 at Mt Wellington. The stores were converted to Countdowns or Woolworths stores.

2004
In April 2004, the Price Chopper brand ceased to operate within New Zealand which first opening in 1987. The stores were converted to Woolworths or Countdown supermarkets, ensuring a strong supermarket presence within the towns in which they operated.
