Murray Johnston
- General Manager Merchandise
Murray Johnston is General Manager of Merchandise at Progressive Enterprises. Murray is responsible for both the packaged and fresh Buying functions within the company.
Murray joined Progressive Enterprises in April 2008 from the broader Woolworths Limited team. Murray joined Woolworths in 1976 and has held a number of senior operational and buying roles over his retailing career. His roles included Regional Manager, Senior Business Manager Perishables, Senior Business Manager Grocery, Merchandise Manager, Category Manager, Store Manager and storeman.
Due to Murray's in-depth knowledge of the supermarket business he has worked on strategic business projects including one that restructured Woolworths operation from six separate State Offices to one national team and another that transitioned the six buying teams to the one Shared Services Team. In 1990 Murray won the Joe Berry Award, a national award open to retailers and manufacturers. In 2002 he won the 'Foodweek Magazine' Retail Executive of the Year which is judged by the Suppliers and Manufacturers of Australia.
